LADY PIRATES RETURN HOME SEEKING 10TH STRAIGHT WIN

Game Notes

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will return to the HU Convocation Center Monday evening in search of its 10th straight win, as the Lady Pirates square off against Delaware State at 6 p.m.

Monday night will be Play4Kay Night, in honor of former N.C. State women's basketball coach Kay Yow. Fans are encouraged to wear pink, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be soliciting donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

More information on Play4Kay (formerly WBCA Pink Zone) can be found at www.play4kay.org.

The Lady Pirates (18-5, 9-0 MEAC) beat Coppin State 68-59 last Monday, behind a career-high 25 points from senior guard Olivia Allen (Kildeer, Ill.) – as well as 16 points and 14 rebounds from senior forward Keiara Avant (Chesapeake, Va.) for her 14th double-double of the season.

Delaware State (8-13, 5-3 MEAC) dropped its second straight game on Saturday, falling 61-51 at Norfolk State. Junior guard Tasia Bristow led the Lady Hornets with 24 points, while redshirt-sophomore guard/forward Tierra Hawkins added nine points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Hornets went 7-23 last season, finishing 10th in the MEAC with a mark of 4-12. Delaware State, in its first year under head coach Tamika Louis, returns all five starters and 11 letterwinners from last season, and the Lady Hornets were chosen to finish 11th in the MEAC this year.

Hawkins leads the Lady Hornets in scoring and rebounding this season, pouring in 17.7 points per game while grabbing 7.4 rebounds per contest. Bristow is the only other Delaware State player in double figures, averaging 12.1 points per game.

Delaware State is averaging 58.5 points per game, while giving up 64.8 points a contest.

Hampton is 28-12 all-time against Delaware State, and the Lady Pirates have won the last eight meetings — including both of last season's meetings. Overall, Hampton has won 12 of the last 13 meetings. The Lady Pirates are 15-5 against Delaware State at home.

Since joining the MEAC in 1995-96, the Lady Pirates have won five regular-season and six tournament titles — including each of the last three under head coach David Six. Hampton has a winning record against every MEAC team.

Hampton's first regular-season MEAC title came in 1998-99, and the Lady Pirates first won the MEAC Tournament, and its corresponding NCAA bid, in 2000.

Under Six, the Lady Pirates are 35-6 at the HU Convocation Center over the past three-plus seasons — including a 9-1 record at home last season. Hampton's lone home loss last season came in overtime against Coppin State, 69-66 on Jan. 28.

Prior to that loss, the Lady Pirates had won 16 straight home games under Six. The Lady Pirates are 6-0 at home so far this season following a 67-45 win over Howard on Jan. 28.
