ELON, N.C. – The Hampton University softball team will compete in the Phoenix Softball Clash hosted by Elon University on Saturday and Sunday at the Hunt Softball Park, playing in four games over three days.

The Lady Pirates (1-8) will take on Saint Peter's at 2:30 p.m. before squaring off against Temple at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, Hampton will face Temple again at 12:15 p.m., before closing out against host Elon at 2:30 p.m.

This will be the third non-conference tournament to open the season for the Lady Pirates. Hampton's first non-tournament contests will come on Tuesday, when the Lady Pirates head to Lynchburg, Va. for a doubleheader at Liberty starting at 2 p.m.

The Lady Pirates picked up their first win of the season this past weekend in the University of New Mexico Lobo Classic, beating host New Mexico on Saturday 7-2. Freshman Bobbi Langlois (Medina, Ohio) led the offensive charge for the Lady Pirates and was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

In five games, she had a .538 batting average, going 7-for-13 at the plate.

She had three doubles and nine RBIs. Langlois had two hits and three RBIs in the win over New Mexico. She also drove in three runs against Central Michigan. Langlois also had three hits in Friday's 11-3 loss to New Mexico.

On the mound, Langlois struck out 11 batters in 16.2 innings pitched.

Hampton also fell 6-1 to Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne this past weekend, as well as falling 11-3 to New Mexico on Friday, 8-6 to Central Michigan on Saturday, and 15-4 to Bradley this past Sunday.

The Lady Pirates are 0-2 all-time against Saint Peter's, with the last meeting coming in 2002, and 0-1 against Elon. Hampton's lone meeting with Elon came back in 1998, with the Phoenix winning 4-3.

Hampton has never faced Temple.

The Lady Pirates are 8-38 all-time against Liberty, and the two teams split a doubleheader last season. Hampton beat the Flames 5-3 in the first game back on April 11, before falling 9-6 in the second game. Liberty has won six of the last seven meetings.
