SOFTBALL TO HOST LADY PIRATES CLASSIC

Complete Schedule | Lady Pirates Classic Tournament Page

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University softball team will be home for the first time this season, hosting the Lady Pirates Classic at the lady Pirates Softball Complex on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, competing in four games in three days.

The Lady Pirates will take on Central Connecticut State on Friday at 4 p.m., before squaring off against Canisius on Saturday at 4 p.m. Hampton will face Siena on Sunday at 9 a.m. and Delaware at 11 a.m. that same day.

Maryland Eastern Shore will also compete this weekend.

The Lady Pirates (8-11) won three out of four games this past weekend in the Tiny Last FastPitch Tournament in Irondale, Ala., thanks in large part to junior Margaret Wilkins (Tustin, Calif.), who was 11-for-13 at the plate (.846) and drove in six runs.

She went 4-for-4 against Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, while also going 3-for-4 with four RBIs on Friday against Grambling State. She also had two home runs over the weekend, tying her for the team lead with three so far this season.

Wilkins leads the team in hitting so far this season with a .419 batting average – thanks to a team-high 26 hits in 62 at-bats. She is tied with senior Adrianna Scott (Laurel, Md.) for the team lead in home runs, and her 12 RBIs are tied for second on the team.

Scott leads the Lady Pirates with 14 RBIs.

Wilkins is also boasting a team-best .613 slugging percentage.

Sophomore Jailynn Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up two wins on the mound this past weekend, giving her six for the season, striking out a combined 17 batters in her three appearances. Jackson has struck out at least six batters in five of her last six appearances.

For the season, Jackson is 6-4 with a 2.75 ERA.

The Lady Pirates are 4-4 all-time against CCSU and 1-7 against Canisius. Hampton is also 0-3 all-time against Delaware. Hampton split both meetings with CCSU in last season's Lady Pirates Classic, and their lone win over Canisius came back in 2006.

Hampton has never faced Siena.
