Game Notes

DOVER, Del. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will resume its conference slate on the road on Saturday, as the Lady Pirates square off against Delaware State at Memorial Hall at 2 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (11-4, 2-0 MEAC) wrapped up their non-conference slate with a 70-60 win over Virginia Tech on Jan. 1, thanks to a career-high 30 points from junior guard Kenia Cole (Silver Spring, Md.) and a career-high and school-record 23 rebounds from redshirt-sophomore forward Brielle Ward (Baltimore, Md.).

Senior forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Harrisburg, Pa.) added 12 points.

Bennett is seven rebounds shy of 500 for her career.

The Lady Hornets (4-9, 0-2 MEAC) were picked to finish 10th in the MEAC this season, their second under head coach Tamika Louis. Delaware State snapped a six-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 75-72 overtime win over NJIT, and the Lady Hornets are led by junior forward Tierra Hawkins, who averages 22.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

The Lady Pirates are 31-12 all-time against Delaware State, and they have won the last 11 meetings — including a 63-28 win in the quarterfinals of last season's MEAC Tournament. Delaware State last beat Hampton on Feb. 9, 2008 in Dover, Del., and the Lady Pirates are 11-7 against Delaware State in Dover, Del.

Hampton is 297-138 against teams currently in the MEAC — including a 31-12 mark against Delaware State — and the Lady Pirates have won six MEAC regular-season titles to go along with seven tournament titles, including each of the last four.

Overall, the Lady Pirates have won their last 32 games against MEAC foes, including conference tournament games.
