LADY PIRATES TAKING ON MORGAN STATE ON ESPN3

Game Notes

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will take on Morgan State on Monday evening at the HU Convocation Center, in a contest that will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com starting at 6 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (13-4, 4-0 MEAC) beat Coppin State 80-52 on Saturday, thanks to four players in double figures – led by freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Harrisburg, Pa.), who had a game-high 24 points for her sixth 20-point effort of the season.

Senior forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) and senior guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) each added 18 points, while junior guard Kenia Cole (Silver Spring, Md.) came off the bench to chip in 10 points for her fourth double-figure scoring effort in the last five games.

Hamilton is 41 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Morgan State (2-14, 0-3 MEAC) has dropped its last seven games after falling 615-2 at Norfolk State. The Lady Bears were picked to finish sixth in the MEAC this season. Morgan State, in its ninth season under head coach Donald Beasley, is led by junior guard Tracey Carrington, who leads the conference with 22.5 points per game — the only Lady Bear in double figures this season.

The Lady Pirates are 24-11 all-time against Morgan State, and the Lady Pirates have won the last six meetings between the two teams — including both of last season's meetings. Morgan State last defeated the Lady Pirates in 2009.

Overall, Hampton is 14-2 all-time against Morgan State in home games.

Hampton is 299-138 against teams currently in the MEAC — including a 24-11 mark against Morgan State — and the Lady Pirates have won six MEAC regular-season titles to go along with seven tournament titles, including each of the last four.

The Lady Pirates have won their last 34 games against MEAC foes, including conference tournament games.

The Lady Pirates were a perfect 11-0 at home last season, and in their four-plus years under head coach David Six, they are 44-7 in the HU Convocation Center. Hampton had not lost at home since Jan. 28, 2012, when they fell 69-66 to Coppin State in overtime, prior to a loss to American back on Dec. 4. Hampton had won 16 straight home games before that defeat.

Hampton is 7-1 at home this season after defeating Coppin State 80-52 on Saturday.
