HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University Lady Pirates will take the home floor of the HU Convocation Center for the first time this season on Wednesday night when they host the Owls of Temple University at 5:30 pm.
Prior to tipoff, there will be a special ceremony honoring senior
Malia Tate-DeFreitas for her becoming the school's all-time NCAA Division I scoring leader and becoming the second women's player to score 2,000 career points.
Hampton enters the game with a 3-5 record after seeing its three-game winning streak snapped with a 71-50 loss at James Madison on Friday night.  Tate-DeFreitas leads the team in scoring, ranking third in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), at 18.1 points per game. Â
Junior
Monnazjea Finney-Smith is tied for fourth in the MEAC in 3-point field goals made per game at just under two per contest, while
Kaylah Lupoe is fifth in the conference in rebounding at seven per game and
Jephany Brown is seventh in the MEAC in steals at just over two per contest.
Temple is currently 4-2 with four players averaging between 14 and 17 points per game. Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald leads the team in scoring at 17.5 points per game and also in assists with 41. Alliya Butts is averaging 15.8 points and leads the team in steals with 16, while Tanaya Atkinson is averaging 15.2 points and a team-best7.8 rebounds per game and Donnaizha Fountain averages 14 points and seven rebounds per game.
Hampton will be off for over a week before its next game which will be on December 15 when they face the Richmond Spiders at the Convocation Center starting at 5:30 pm.
