LADY PIRATES VISIT DELAWARE STATE SATURDAY

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University Lady Pirates takes to the road for the first time in the 2016-17 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)season facing the Delaware State Hornets at Memorial Hall in Dover, Delaware for a 2pm tip on Saturday.

The game will be broadcasted on WHOV-88.1FM at approximately 1:50 pm.
 
ABOUT HAMPTON
Hampton is 8-7 and 2-0 in MEAC action after defeating Savannah State 75-46 on Monday night.  Senior Malia Tate-DeFreitas scored 20 points and junior Monnazjea Finney-Smith had a season-high 20 points as Hampton outscored Savannah State 42-22 in the second half for the 29-point victory.  Junior Kaylah Lupoe added 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
 
ABOUT DELAWARE STATE
The Hornets are 1-13 and 0-1 in MEAC action after falling to North Carolina Central 83-44 on Tuesday night in Durham, NC.  Kia Abrams had 17 points and five rebounds to lead the Hornets, while Lanayjha Ashe added 10 points. 
 
MALIA #2 ON MEAC ALL-TIME SCORING LIST
With her 20 points against Savannah State on January 9, senior Malia Tate-DeFreitas is moving closer to the all-time lead on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference scoring list with 2,201 points.  She now trails the career leader, Saadia Doyle of Howard, by 109 points for the all-time record now at 2,310 points.
 
BLOCK PARTY FOR ONE
Junior Kaylah Lupoe became the sixth Lady Pirate to record 100 career blocked shots with her two swats on Monday against Savannah State.  Lupoe is averaging two blocks per game and is ranked fifth in the MEAC in that category.
 
LAST TIME VS. DELAWARE STATE
Delaware State defeated Hampton 89-81 on Feb. 29, 2016 at the HU Convocation Center in the last meeting.  Malia Tate-DeFreitas had a game-high 35 points and eight rebounds, while DeJane' James added 12 points.  Hampton trimmed a 19-point deficit to seven midway through the fourth quarter, but couldn't get closer.
 
NEXT UP
Hampton will return home for a 4pm tip against North Carolina Central on January 16.  The game is moved up to accommodate a men's ESPNU broadcast against North Carolina Central at 7 pm.
