SOFTBALL FALLS IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP TO RADFORD

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University softball team's bats went quiet in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Radford on Tuesday at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium, dropping the first game 2-0 before falling 3-0 in the second game.

The Lady Pirates are now 13-20 on the season.

The first game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel, with the game scoreless after six innings. In fact, Radford went without a hit until Summer Robinson's two-run single in the top of the seventh inning gave the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.

Both runs were unearned, as Radford took advantage of a pair of Hampton errors.

The Lady Pirates had eight hits in the first game, including two in the bottom of the seventh, but they couldn't push across any runs.

Jada Fields and Danielle Budden each had two hits.

Allyson Babinsack struck out three in seven innings of work, allowing just the one hit.

Much like the first game, the doubleheader's second game was scoreless heading into the top of the seventh. From there, Radford took advantage of an error to score the first run, before RBI singles from Trapuzzano and Bishton gave the Highlanders a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Pirates were held to one hit in the second game, a bunt single from Taylor Warrick in the sixth inning.

Allie Hotetz struck out four and scattered seven hits in seven innings of work.

Conference play resumes with a three-game home series against Coppin State, as Hampton's eight-game homestand continues.
