CAREER NIGHT BY FISHER LEADS MEN OVER SAVANNAH

HAMPTON, Va. – Junior Kalin Fisher scored 18 of his career-high 37 in final 11:15 as Hampton rallied from an 11-point deficit to defeat Savannah State in overtime 114-102 on Monday night in a key Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup.

Hampton, winners of six in a row, held a 65-60 lead on a Fisher jumper with 14:31 left, but the Tigers roared on a 23-7 run over the next 6:20 to take a 83-72 lead on a 3-pointer by Alante Fenner with 8:11 left.

The Pirates caught their stroke back with a 14-3 run capped by a deep 3-ball by Fisher with 3:41 left to tie the game at 86-all.  Each team held a brief two-point lead over the final three minutes but a pair of free throws by Malique Trent-Street with 28 seconds left tied the game at 92-all.  Savannah had two shots at the end of regulation bounce off the front of the rim,

In overtime, the Pirates were 14-of-14 from the foul line as buckets by Akim Mitchell, Trent-Street and a pair of Fisher free throws gave Hampton an early 98-92 lead with 3:13 left on OT.  That lead grew to eight on another pair of Fisher free throws with 2:07 left for a 102-94 margin.    Hampton closed the game 8-for-8 in the final 65 seconds from the foul line.

Fisher's 37 points topped his previous career-high of 29 done last against Coastal Carolina in early December.  It was also the most points by a Hampton player since Darrion Pellum scored 36 in a 68-56 loss to Morgan State on Jan. 16, 2012.

Jermaine Marrow joined the double figure group with 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Charles Wilson-Fisher added 15 points and nine boards off the bench, Trent-Street had 13 points, six boards and six assists and Mitchell had 12 points and nine boards.

Hampton (15-14, 10-4) now hosts Morgan State on Saturday at 6 pm on Senior Night at the HU Convocation Center.
