ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hampton Lady Pirates tennis team opened its 2018 season on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Norfolk State at the United States Tennis Association national campus in Orlando.
Hampton swept the doubles matches for the team point.Â
Mariam Mitaishvili and
Cherise Slocombe won 6-3 at line one, while Kiah Turner and
Yulia Kapitanova won 6-2 at line two. In the third slot, Hayley Williams and Ana Romanova won 6-0.
In singles, Hampton won all but line one where they fell in a three-set match. Turner won 6-2, 6-3 at line two, Kapitanova won 6-0, 6-2 at line four, while Slocombe, Williams and Romanova all won 6-0, 6-0.
Hampton returns to action tomorrow against University of South Dakota at 11:30 am.
