NORFOLK, Va. – In a four-hour dual match, the Hampton Lady Pirates advanced to the championship round of the MEAC Championship on Friday with a 4-3 win over Bethune-Cookman.

In doubles play, the Lady Pirates took a win at line two as
Kiah Turner and
Cherise Slocombe won 6-4 to give Hampton the team point. With Bethune-Cookman only having five players, Hampton received the win at number three doubles and six singles so Hampton went into singles play with a 2-0 lead.

In singles play, Slocombe won 6-2, 6-3 at line four to put the Lady Pirates ahead 3-0. Bethune would make things interesting as they would win at lines one, two and three defeating Hampton in two three-set matches to tie at 3-3.
Haley Mullins would respond with a win at line four 6-4, 7-5 to clinch the win for the Lady Pirates.

Hampton will face Morgan State on Saturday at 9am at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University. The winner gets an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships.

This marks the second year in a row that Hampton (11-7) has advanced to the MEAC Championship match.
