Pirates Prepare For Final Non-Conference Games Against Maryland Eastern Shore

HAMPTON, Va. (April 21, 2025) … Coach Cat Tarvin's side is back on the road for its final non-conference matchup of the season. The Pirates will face Maryland Eastern Shore on Tuesday in a doubleheader. 

ABOUT THE SERIES

Historically, the series has favored Hampton with HU having an impressive 43-2 home record against Maryland Eastern Shore. While the Pirates have a 23-10 road record against the Hawks, UMES has won three of the last five meetings. In the recent matchup, Maryland Eastern Shore defeated Hampton 6-4.

ABOUT HAMPTON

The Pirates are coming off a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) three-game series against the Delaware Blue Hens. Hampton fell in all three games to the Blue Hens. Carmynn Bonner had an impressive game three against Delaware. The Dayton, Ohio native, went 2-for-3 from the plate and recorded four RBIs. In the bottom of the fifth, Bonner produced a three-run home run. Kylie Hill had an impressive series, going 5-for-8 with an RBI. 

Throughout the season, Hampton has ranked towards the top of the CAA in triples. Coach Tarvin's squad has amassed 13 triples, which is the 37th most in the country. Bonner leads the Pirates this season with seven triples, and Kylee Quinn is close behind with four. Both Bonner and Hill are in the top 10 in the conference standings for hits this season. Bonner's 54 hits are third in the CAA, and Hill sits seventh with 50. 

ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE

This past weekend, Maryland Eastern Shore fell in all three games to South Carolina State. The Hawks had the lead 3-1 entering the top of the sixth. South Carolina State jumped out to a two-run lead in the seventh, scoring four runs in the frame. Down to their final three outs, the Hawks manufactured a run, but South Carolina State escaped with the victory. Maryland Eastern Shore is coached by Aaron Robinson, who is in his second season at the helm. 

Clarke Calvin has been Maryland Eastern Shore's top offensive player this season. The freshman leads the Hawks in batting average with a .316. Calvin's .427 on-base percentage is the fifth-best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Jaycee Holt is a speed threat on the bases. The junior outfielder leads the MEAC in stolen bases recording 22 in 24 attempts.
