HAMPTON, Va. (April 3. 2025) … The Hampton University softball team is back in action this weekend against the Towson Tigers. Both teams lost in their recent Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series. Hampton fell to Stony Brook at home while Towosn lost on the road to North Carolina A&T. Heading into the three-game series, Coach Cat Tarvin's side is only two games back of the Tigers. 

ABOUT THE SERIES

Since joining the conference the Pirates have defeated the Tigers once. Hampton's win came during the final contest of the 2024 campaign. Carmynn Bonner propelled HU past Towson going 2-for-2 from the plate and drew two walks. Bonner homered to left field in the bottom of the fourth driving in two runs. The series first meeting came during the 2013 season at the Tiger Softball Stadium. 

ABOUT HAMPTON

In their last time out the Pirates fell in all three games to the Stony Brook Seawolves. During the first two games of the series, the Seawolves offense got going in the final three innings. 73 percent of Stony Brook's 19 runs in the first two games came during the final three frames. Kylee Quinn recorded her first RBI of the season in the first game against SBU. The sophomore drove in a run on a base knock through the left side. Kylie Hill ended the series on a strong note producing multiple hits back-to-back contests. 

Throughout the 2025 campaign, Hampton has ranked towards the top of the conference in triples. The Pirates have produced 10 triples this season which is third most in the CAA and 34th in the country. HU is averaging 0.33 triples per game ranking Coach Tarvin's side 29th in the nation. Bonner continues to lead Hampton on the offensive end. The Dayton, Ohio product is second in the conference for batting average (.417). Bonner's 43 hits is third in the CAA and leads the Pirates. 

ABOUT TOWSON

The Tigers enter the weekend seventh in the conference standings. Towson began the conference play with a win over Stony Brook. The Tigers dropped the final two games of the series to the Seawolves. Towson's only series win came on the road against Hofstra. The Tigers are coached by Lisa Costello who is in her 30th season with the program. 

Coach Costello's side is third in the conference for home runs. Briyana Wright, Isabella Canesi, Kristin Toland, and Madyson Peters are all tied for eighth in the CAA for home runs with four. Toland out of the group of long ball hitters has the best batting average with a .343. The Sparrows Point, Md. native, leads the Tigers in hits with 35. Amanda Medina is Towson's go-to arm on the mound. The sophomore has pitched four complete games and tallied one save.
