Softball Sweeps Day One Of HBCU Invitational

Box Score COVINGTON, Ga. (Feb. 13, 2026) … The Hampton University softball team opened play in the HBCU Leonard Moody Invitational with a pair of 11-6 wins on Friday defeating Maryland Eastern Shore and South Carolina State.

Game 1 – Hampton 11, UMES 6
Hampton broke open a 4-4 tie with a seven-run third inning to win its first game of 2026 by knocking off UMES.
After giving up a run in the top of the first, Hampton took advantage of a couple passed balls to score two for an early lead.
UMES (0-1) put up a three-spot in the second and Hampton tied it up at 4-4 on a two-run Riley Bohanon single to score Kylee Quinn and Simone Singleton.
The Pirates erupted for seven runs in the third on a bases loaded walk to Bohanon, RBI singles from Carmynn Bonner, Amani Johnson and Victoria Salazar, a sac fly from Camryn Hamilton, a passed ball and an error.
Ava Lester went the distance striking out eight in earning her first win of the season. She struck out the side after a leadoff single in the third and ended a threat in the fourth with a key strikeout.
The Hawks clawed a couple runs across in the seventh, but were stopped as a single from Lola Meyer to center field where Raven Jackson threw out Araceli Manzo at the plate to end the game.
Bohanon drove in three runs, while scoring twice. Bonner was 3-for-4, while Salazar and Johnson were 2-for-4 apiece.
 
Game 2 – Hampton 11, S.C. State 6
After giving up a pair of runs in the top of the first, the Pirates called up the long ball Bonner erased that with one swing of the bat blasting a grand slam home run to left center for a 4-2 Hampton lead.
That lead grew to 6-2 as after a run in the second, the Pirates got another long ball from Hamilton for a solo shot in the third.
Hampton pushed the lead to 10-2 in the bottom of the fourth as Aitrinha Aiken had an RBI single, a sac fly from Hamilton, a bases loaded walk to Bonner and a wild pitch.
The Bulldogs got back into the contest in the top of the fifth with a bases clearing single from Alyssa Stanford highlighting a four-run inning as S.C. State trailed 10-6.
Bohanon closed the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth for an 11-6 lead.
McKenzie Rimmer-Jones picked up the win for the Pirates going the distance. Aiken was 2-for-3 with two runs scored , while Kylee Quinn was 1-for-2 with three runs scored. Bonner was 1-for-3 with five RBIs and Hamilton was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Pirates will take on a pair of SWAC opponents in Florida A&M and Texas Southern on Saturday.
