The Pirates enter after dropping a three-game series against Campbell to open CAA play at home.
Carmynn Bonner leads the team in batting average at .491. Last weekend against Campbell she was 6-for-10 and matched her career-best going 4-for-4 in game three. In the CAA she is second in average, fourth in OBP (.525), fifth in OPS (1.223) and ninth in hits (23) and doubles (5).
Bonner, a preseason Honorable Mention All-CAA pick, has six multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games through the first month of the season.
Ava Lester leads the Pirates on the mound with a 2.58 ERA as she sports a 2-1 record. Lester has thrown 21.2 innings and struck out 19 while walking five.

Virginia entered its weekend series with North Carolina on a 20-game winning streak that was the second longest active streak nationally at the time. That streak hit 21 after a 7-3 win on Friday, but was snapped the next day in an 11-9 eight-inning loss. The Cavaliers rebounded with a wild 19-14 win in eight innings to split a Saturday doubleheader.
Third baseman Bella Cabral had four hits in game two to pace a 20-hit onslaught for the Cavaliers. She is second on the team in average at .461 trailing Macee Eaton who is hitting .462.
As a team, the Cavaliers are batting .338 and holding opponents to a .206 average through 24 games. They have outscored opponents 181-to-77 through 24 games. Courtney Layne leads Virginia on the mound sporting an 8-1 record with a 1.25 ERA.
SERIES VS. UVA
The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 5-2 with Hampton. These teams played three times in the 2019 season with one in a tournament at Elon (Virginia 2-0) and twice to close the season in Charlottesville with the Cavaliers winning 5-2 and 8-0. Hampton defeated Virginia in a doubleheader at home in the 2018 season winning 8-3 and 3-2 on March 6, 2018.
