WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – David Kimani gave Hampton University its best finish Saturday morning in the William & Mary Tribe Cross Country Open at Eastern State Hospital, finishing seventh in the men's 8K race. Jasmin Branch finished 11th in the women's 6K race to pace the Lady Pirates.
Kimani (Kenya) ran a 27:01.87, while
Branch (Hampton, Va.) completed the course in 23:09.58.
Freshman
Mike Davenport (Pleasantville, N.J.) ran a 28:30.84 to finish 19th, while
Berian White (Newark, Del.) came in 20th with a 28:31.58. Freshman
Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) finished 23rd with a time of 28:51.40, and
Bradley Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md.) came in 30th after running a 30:07.87.
Lawrence Campbell (Peekskill, N.Y.) finished 41st with a 32:09.49, and
Bryan Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md.) ran a 33:58.43 to finish 47th.
Jahlisa Smith (Plainfield, N.J.) finished 14th for the Lady Pirates, running a 23:29.18. Freshman
Tyreka Arrington (Lanham, Md.) ran a 24:50.24 to finish 25th, while
Kenya Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) finished 30th with a time of 25:05.43.
Janean Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came in 33rd with a time of 26:06.40, and
Adrienne Thomas (Silver Spring, Md.) ran a 26:52.58 to finish 35th.
Leah Richmond (Long Beach, Calif.) finished 38th with a time of 30:56.30.
No team scores were recorded. Tom Burke (unattached/William & Mary) won the men's race with a time of 25:52.11, while Maria-Elena Calle (unattached/Virginia Commonwealth) took the women's title after running a 20:36.24.
After taking a weekend off, the Pirates and Lady Pirates will compete in the 2009 MEAC Cross Country Championships, which will be held Oct. 31 at Princess Anne, Md.
