WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Hampton University men's cross country team finished fifth in the William & Mary Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge on Saturday, held at Eastern State Hospital. The women's cross country team finished sixth.

The Pirates wound up with 163 points, 122 points behind men's team champion Tennessee, while the Lady Pirates finished with 175 points. Toledo won the women's title with 23 points.

Jasmin Branch (Hampton, Va.) turned in the best finish for the Lady Pirates, coming in 18th after running a 22:54.10 on the 6K course. Kenya Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) ran a 24:09.00 to finish 44th, while freshman Tyreka Arrington (Lanham, Md.) came in 59th with a 24:58.70. Janean Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ran a 25:12.40 to finish 64th, and Jahlisa Smith (Plainfield, N.J.) came in 68th with a time of 25:38.20. Leah Richmond (Long Beach, Calif.) ran a 30:07.90 to finish 81st.

Toledo's Ari Fisher won the women's individual title, running a 21:04.30.

David Kimani (Kenya) led the Pirates with a 27:30.70 to finish 37th on the 8K course. Bryan Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md.) ran a 27:39.60 to finish tied for 42nd, while freshman Berian White (Newark, Del.) came in 50th with a time of 28:20.20. Mike Davenport (Pleasantville, N.J.) ran a 28:37.20 to finish 53rd, Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) came in 58th with a 29:07.30 and Bradley Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md.) finished 64th with a 30:05.20. Sean Shelton (Virginia Beach, Va.) ran a 32:59.80 to finish 82nd.

Norfolk State's Philemon Kimutai won the men's individual title with a time of 25:29.00.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action on Saturday, when they head to Cary, N.C. for the inaugural HBCU Cross Country Classic.
