BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hampton University men's basketball team picked up its second straight win on Saturday, beating Coppin State 67-59 at the Physical Education Complex.

Kwame Morgan II (Largo, Md.) led two Pirates in double figures with 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting, making four of his seven 3-pointers. Junior guard
Darrion Pellum (Hampton, Va.) added 15 points.
Senior guard
Brandon Tunnell (Wilmington, Del.) added 10 assists, while senior forward
Charles Funches (Jersey City, N.J.) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Coppin State took a 14-10 lead with 15:53 left in the first half after a 3-pointer from Akeem Ellis, but Hampton responded with a 7-0 spurt to take a 17-14 lead at the 10:33 mark after Pellum flushed down a dunk.
Another Pellum dunk at the 1:28 mark gave Hampton a 29-24 lead, but Coppin State closed the half on a 6-2 run to cut the Pirates' lead to 31-30 at the break.
Tony Gallo sank a trey with 14:51 left in the second half to give Coppin State a 42-41 lead, but Hampton took the lead back at the 13:39 mark with a Morgan 3-pointer. The Pirates then responded with an 11-2 run, taking a 55-45 lead with 9:48 left on a 3-pointer from junior guard

After Coppin State closed to within six, 55-49, with 9:06 to play on a pair of Gallo free throws, Hampton extended the lead to 13, 65-52, on a Pellum jumper with 1:29 to play.
The Eagles had just four field goals in the final 9:06.
The Pirates (12-3, 2-0 MEAC) shot 46.4 percent (26-for-56) from the floor, though they went just 8-for-17 from the free throw line. Hampton forced 17 Coppin State turnovers, turning them into 17 points.
Hampton had six blocks, including two each from junior forward
Danny Agbelese (Lanham, Md.) and sophomore forward
Koron Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.).
Coppin State shot just 32.3 percent (20-for-62) from the floor, making just eight of 13 free throw attempts. The Eagles out-rebounded Hampton 45-38, pulling down 17 offensive boards.
Ellis and Jordan Lee each had 19 points to lead the Eagles (5-8, 0-2), while Gallo added 10 points.
