PIRATES TO TAKE ON AGGIES ON ESPNU

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
The Hampton University men's basketball team will go after its fifth straight game on the road on Monday, as the Pirates take on North Carolina A&T at the Corbett Sports Center at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.

The Pirates (19-5, 9-2 MEAC), in their second season under head coach Edward Joyner Jr., won their fourth straight game on Saturday by beating Norfolk State 86-72 at Echols Hall. Junior guard Darrion Pellum (Hampton, Va.) led the way with 26 points, while junior guard Kwame Morgan II (Largo, Md.) added 19 points and senior guard Brandon Tunnell (Wilmington, Del.) scored 15 points.

North Carolina A&T (11-14, 6-5 MEAC) won for the second time in three games on Saturday, beating Howard 68-49 at the Corbett Sports Center. Senior center Thomas Coleman led the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore forward Adrian Powell added 12 points and sophomore forward DaMetrius Upchurch poured in 10 points.

Hampton is 21-9 against North Carolina A&T since moving up to Division I in 1995, beating the Aggies 82-77 at the HU Convocation Center earlier this season on Jan. 17. The two teams split last season's meetings; the Pirates won 65-55 in Greensboro, N.C. on Jan. 18, 2010, before the Aggies came to the HU Convocation Center on Feb. 15, 2010 to pick up a 65-59 win. Hampton has won five of the last eight meetings between the two teams. At one point, from 2001-05, Hampton had won 10 straight over the Aggies. The Pirates 10-4 all-time against North Carolina A&T on the road.

The Aggies went 11-22 last season, finishing tied for eighth with Howard in the MEAC with a 6-10 mark. Returning five freshmen from last year's squad, and welcoming in five more newcomers, the Aggies were picked to finish eighth in the MEAC this season.

Coleman leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, pouring in 17.3 points and pulling down a MEAC-high 10.9 rebounds per game. Junior guard Nic Simpson is averaging 14.6 points per game, while junior guard Marc Hill is pouring in 10.9 points per night.

The Aggies are scoring 72.8 points per game, while giving up 75.5 points a night.

The Pirates are 6-4 in true road games so far this season, and had won three straight on the road following a season-opening loss at Wake Forest before falling 69-57 at San Francisco. Hampton has beaten Fordham (58-48), George Washington (62-51), High Point (70-64), Coppin State (67-59), Bethune-Cookman (68-56) and Norfolk State (86-72) on the road. For his head coaching career, Pirates coach Edward Joyner Jr. is 11-12 on the road.
