PIRATES TO CELEBRATE SENIOR NIGHT AGAINST FAMU

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's basketball team will look to get back into the win column in its home finale on Monday, as the Pirates celebrate Senior Night against Florida A&M at the HU Convocation Center at 8 p.m.

The Pirates (19-7, 9-4 MEAC), in their second season under head coach Edward Joyner Jr., have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season following Saturday's 78-76 double-overtime loss to Bethune-Cookman. Junior guard Darrion Pellum (Hampton, Va.) led the Pirates with 22 points, while junior guard Kwame Morgan II (Largo, Md.) added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Charles Funches (Jersey City, N.J.) had 14 points and 12 rebounds, while senior guard Brandon Tunnell (Wilmington, Del.) added 14 points and seven assists.

Florida A&M (11-16, 6-7 MEAC) lost its second straight game on Saturday, falling 59-50 to Howard at Burr Gymnasium. Sophomore forward Amin Stevens led the Rattlers with 22 points and 11 rebounds, the only player to record double figures in both categories.

Hampton is 17-10 against Florida A&M since moving up to Division I in 1995, falling 62-58 earlier this season on Jan. 24 at the Lawson Center. The Pirates swept last season's meetings, beating the Rattlers 66-53 at the HU Convocation Center on Jan. 25, 2010, before coming to the Lawson Center on Feb. 22 and taking a 70-61 win. Hampton has won three of the last four games over FAMU, the only loss a 76-75 defeat in overtime during the 2008-09 season. The Pirates won the first-ever meeting against FAMU 81-79 in overtime in 1997. Hampton is 10-2 against FAMU at the HU Convocation Center.

The Rattlers went 9-22 last season, finishing 10th in the MEAC with a 5-11 conference record and falling to Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC Tournament. FAMU was picked to finish tied for 10th with Coppin State in the MEAC this season.

Stevens leads FAMU in both scoring and rebounding, pouring in 14.1 points and pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game. He's the only Rattler in double figures in scoring this season.

The Rattlers score 642 points per game, but give up 68.8 points a night.

The Pirates are 8-2 at the HU Convocation Center so far this season following a 78-76 double-overtime loss to Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. Hampton has also beaten Georgia State 60-56, before falling to Delaware 55-53, beating Towson 78-67, beating Liberty 62-59, beating Norfolk State 63-56, beating North Carolina A&T 82-77 and beating Delaware State 70-66 (in overtime) at home so far this season. The Pirates went 6-6 at home last season, winning their last three games at the Convocation Center.
