HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University softball team spilt a doubleheader with Morgan State on Saturday at the Lady Pirates Softball Complex, winning the second game 8-7 after falling 7-4 in eight innings in the first game.
The Lady Pirates (10-24, 3-2 MEAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second game, scoring twice in the first inning after a sacrifice fly from senior
Bre'Anna Brown (Los Angeles, Calif.) and an RBI single from junior
Travonna Byrd (Newport News, Va.), before adding a run in the second inning on an RBI triple from sophomore
Tamara Vickers (Lawndale, Calif.) down the right field line.
Junior
Rebecca Magett (Grand Rapids, Mich.) smacked her second home run of the season, and the first for the Lady Pirates in their new stadium, in the third inning to put Hampton up 4-0.
Morgan State took the lead with a seven-run fifth inning, despite tallying just two hits. The Lady Bears took advantage of an error and scored two runs on an errant throw on a fielder's choice by Tiffany Rubin.
Tamra Griffin also doubled home two runs in that inning.
The Lady Pirates answered immediately, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning. Magett drove in the first run with an RBI groundout, before sophomore
Carla Trimble (Riverside, Calif.) singled home another run. Sophomore
Adrianna Scott (Laurel, Md.) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, before junior
Brooke Boykin (Riverside, Calif.) singled home the go-ahead run.

Sharde' Estep (Aquasco, Md.) each had two hits for the Lady Pirates. Vickers had triples in her first two at-bats. Magett drove in a team-high two runs.
Senior
Tiffany Brents (Chino Hills, Calif.) went the full seven innings to pick up her fifth win of the season, striking out four.
Hampton also had a 4-0 lead in the first game, scoring all four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore
Nina Ferguson (Plymouth, Minn.) doubled home the first run, before Brown singled home two more. Vickers scored the final run of the inning by stealing home on a strikeout of Estep.
Morgan State (10-21, 3-2 MEAC) got on the board in the sixth inning when Devina Brown singled and scored on a fielding error. The Lady Bears then scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, thanks to three hits and two errors, to tie the game at 4-4.
Bosha Richardson singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, before Sakina Smith walked with the bases loaded and Amber Frame singled home the final run.
Brown had two of Hampton's six hits, driving in two runs.
