HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's basketball team will face off against Morgan State on Monday at 7 p.m. at the HU Convocation Center. Like the first meeting this season between the two teams, this game will be televised live on ESPNU.
The Pirates (7-14, 3-5 MEAC), in their third season under head coach Edward Joyner Jr., fell 73-70 to Coppin State at the HU Convocation Center on Saturday, despite 24 points from senior guard

Christopher Tolson (Laurel, Md.) added 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
The Bears (5-13, 3-4 MEAC) fell 76-59 to Norfolk State in Echols Hall on Saturday, despite 13 points and 12 rebounds from senior forward Kevin Thompson. Morgan State has lost two of its last three games following Saturday's defeat.
The Bears went 17-14 overall last season, finishing fourth in the MEAC with a 10-6 record before falling to Hampton in the MEAC Tournament championship game. Morgan State, under sixth-year head coach Todd Bozeman, return all five starters and 10 letterwinners from last season, and the Bears were picked to win the MEAC this season.
Junior forward DeWayne Jackson is leading the team in scoring, pouring in 12.6 points per game, while Thompson is averaging 12.4 points per contest to go along with a team-high 8.4 rebounds per contest.
Morgan State is scoring 64.9 points per game, while giving up 69.4 points a contest.
Since moving up to Div. I in 1995, the Pirates are 20-11 against Morgan State, beating the Bears 60-55 in the MEAC Tournament championship game last season after losing three straight in the series. Morgan State won the first meeting between the two teams this season, taking a 68-56 win at Hill Field House on Jan. 16 Hampton and Morgan State first met on Jan. 5, 1997, with the Pirates winning 61-59.
From 1999-2003, the Pirates won nine straight over the Bears, and the Pirates are 9-3 against Morgan State at home.
Hampton is 194-114 all-time as a Div. I program (since 1995) against teams currently in the MEAC, including an 11-5 mark in the conference last season. North Carolina Central, in its first year in the MEAC, is the only team currently in the conference that the Pirates have not faced since moving to Div. I.
Since joining the MEAC in 1995, the Pirates have won two regular-season conference titles (2000-01, 2001-02) and four MEAC Tournament crowns (2001, 2002, 2006, 2011).
The Pirates went 8-3 at the HU Convocation Center last season, despite losing their last two home games of the season. Starting with a 78-67 win over Towson on Dec. 20 of last season, the Pirates won seven straight home games – including five in a row against MEAC competition.
For his career as a head coach, Joyner is 18-11 at home, and the Pirates are 4-3 at home so far this season – beating William & Mary, High Point, Howard and South Carolina State, before losing to Savannah State on Dec. 1, Norfolk State on Jan. 21 and Coppin State on Saturday. Hampton is 2-3 at home in MEAC play this season.
