The Pirates got out to an early lead, starting the game on a 5-0 run to take an early lead over the Highlanders. It started out looking like a great night for the Pirates until Radford went on a 14-0 run started by Javonte Green at the 17:22 mark.

Hampton would not score again until the 14:11 mark, when Brown made a layup.

Radford then used a 17-4 run to extend its lead to 18 points at 31-13. Hampton fought back and not get anything going until the 3:05 mark in the first half when Powers hit a running jumper sparked a 12-0 run to end the half and pull the Pirates within six points of the Highlanders.

Radford (5-3) went into the half leading 39-33. The Highlanders shot lights out in the first half, shooting 51.9 percent (14-for-27) from the floor.

A breakaway dunk from freshman forward Dionte Adams (Charlotte, N.C.) with 12:52 to play cut Radford's lead to 48-47, but that was as close as the Pirates would get; the Highlanders took a 64-54 lead with 6:23 to play, capping a 16-7 run with a 3-pointer from R.J. Price.

Radford led by as many as 15, going up 69-54 with 3:03 to play after another Prince trey.

Hampton cut the lead to 71-64 with 1:13 to play after a dunk from junior guard/forward Du'Vaughn Maxwell (Manhattan, N.Y.), but the Pirates couldn't cut the deficit any more.

The Pirates shot 42.4 percent (28-for-66) from the floor on the night, hitting three of their 11 3-pointers and going just 5-for-10 from the free throw line. Hampton out-rebounded the Highlanders 36-33 and scored 21 points off of 20 Radford turnovers.
