PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Hampton University men's basketball team will hit the road on Wednesday, looking to get back into the win column against Maryland Eastern Shore at 7:30 p.m. at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center.
The Pirates (10-14, 7-4 MEAC), in their fourth season under head coach Edward Joyner Jr., had their five-game winning streak snapped on Monday with a 62-59 loss to Norfolk State. Junior guard

Du'Vaughn Maxwell (Manhattan, N.Y.) each had a team-high 12 points, while Maxwell added 10 rebounds.
The Hawks (2-20, 2-9 MEAC) beat Coppin State 64-62 in double overtime on Monday, snapping a seven-game losing streak. Junior forward Troy Snyder led UMES with 22 points, while freshman forward Kevin Mays added 21 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Hawks went 7-23 last season, finishing 12th in the MEAC at 4-12 before falling to North Carolina Central in the first round of the MEAC Tournament. Maryland Eastern Shore, in its fifth season under head coach Frankie Allen, was picked to finish 12th in the MEAC this season.
Mays leads UMES in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game to go along with a team-high 7.5 rebounds per contest. Sophomore guard KyRee Jones is averaging 13.6 points per game, through 11 games, and Snyder is averaging 11.6 points per game.
The Hawks are averaging just 55.8 points a game on offense, while giving up 71.7 points per contest.
Since moving up to the Div. I level in 1995, the Pirates are 21-6 against Maryland Eastern Shore and have won each of the last five meetings – including an 82-62 win at the HU Convocation Center last season. Overall, Hampton has won 19 of the last 21 meetings with UMES, and the Pirates are 8-4 against the Hawks on the road.
Hampton is 206-123 all-time as a Div. I program (since 1995) against teams currently in the MEAC, including a 6-10 mark in the conference last season. So far this season, Hampton is 7-4 in MEAC play and sits fourth in the conference. The Pirates have faced every team currently in the MEAC at least once, including newcomers North Carolina Central and Savannah State.
Since joining the MEAC in 1995, the Pirates have won two regular-season conference titles (2000-01, 2001-02) and four MEAC Tournament crowns (2001, 2002, 2006, 2011).
The Pirates went 1-13 on the road last season, with that lone win coming at Florida A&M, 74-59, on Feb. 25. For his career, Joyner is 19-34 on the road after Hampton's season-opening loss at William & Mary, a 68-58 loss at Richmond, a 75-67 loss at Ohio, a 61-60 loss at UNC Wilmington, a 73-64 loss at Radford, a 50-43 loss at Winthrop, and a 68-49 loss at USC Upstate.
Hampton's first road win of the season came on Jan. 12 in a 51-49 win over Howard, but the Pirates fell at Norfolk State 74-67 on Jan. 26 before beating South Carolina State 64-60 on Jan. 30, beating Morgan State 64-62 at the buzzer on Feb. 2, beating Coppin State 59-53 on Feb. 4, and upending Savannah State 71-68 in overtime on Feb. 7.
In 2010-11, when the Pirates won the MEAC Tournament championship, Hampton was 8-5 in true road contests.
