The Hampton University softball team swept all three games against rival Norfolk State on Saturday and Sunday at the NSU Softball Field, continuing the team's hot streak in the latter part of the regular season.

The Lady Pirates won by scores of 6-0 and 10-6 on Saturday, before winning 7-6 on Sunday.

Hampton (26-18, 14-3 MEAC) has won 11 straight games and 13 of its last 15 games.

Wilkins brought in another run in the top of the sixth with an infield single, before freshman Heather Baccus (Hertford, N.C.) scored on an error to put Hampton up 5-0. McCoy followed in the seventh with her third home run of the season, a solo shot to center field to put Hampton up 6-0.

The Lady Pirates jumped out immediately in Saturday's second game, pushing across seven runs in the game's opening frame. The scoring started with an RBI single from Budden, before McCoy hit her fourth home run of the season later in the inning.

Junior Kerissa Burruel (Phoenix, Ariz.) then singled home a run of her own, before Ponds singled home a pair of runs to put Hampton up 5-0. Ponds and sophomore McKalee Rouse (Aledo, Texas) then scored on a double from Wilkins to give the Lady Pirates a 7-0 lead.

After Norfolk State scored twice in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 7-2, Baccus answered in the top of the third with her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field to put Hampton up 9-2.

Then, after a double from Ponds, Wilkins tripled down the right field line to score Ponds and give the Lady Pirates a 10-2 lead.

The Spartans scored twice in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 10-4, before pushing across two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut Hampton's lead to 10-6. But Norfolk State stranded two runs in the sixth, before stranding a runner in the seventh.

Ponds went 3-for-3 in Saturday's second game, while Wilkins, Burruel, and freshman Taylor Clark (Queen Creek, Ariz.) each had two hits. Wilkins drove in a team-high three runs, and Baccus and Ponds each drove in two.

Sophomore Jecholia Pratt (Orlando, Fla.) went five innings in picking up her ninth win of the season.
