MIDLOTHIAN, VA. – The Hampton University bowling team had a very productive weekend in the Virginia Union University Invitational going 9-4 in the event that ended on Sunday at Bowl America in Midlothian.
For the year now the Lady Pirates are 15-14 overall and 2-6 in the MEAC.
Junior
Laina Rivers was the top finisher for the Lady Pirates as she came in fifth place in the 70-person field with a 191.7 average for six games. She matched her season-high with a 212 in the head-to-head match against Virginia Union and recorded three of the four 200s the Lady Pirates rolled in the event.
Diamond Cummings joined Rivers in the top ten finishing tenth after averaging 174.5 for her six games with her best being a 196. Following her in average was
Evann Smith who ended in 17
th averaging 160.7 topped by a 190 game.
In head-to-head action, the Lady Pirates dropped a tight contest with Mount Aloysius College (785-784) before getting on a tear and winning four straight topped by a tournament-high 892 against Virginia Union University.
As they went to the Baker format, the Lady Pirates went on a five-match winning streak that included avenging the one-pin loss to Mount Aloysius with a 4-2 win over the Mounties (1,132 – 1,034).
Hampton will next see action on December 5-6 in the MEAC South #2 match held in Daytona Beach, FL.
