GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Hampton University women's bowling team participated this weekend in the N.C. A&T Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. and came through with a second place finish in the event.
Laina Rivers topped the team in the match-play competition on Saturday averaging 178.5 for the four matches with a team-best 224 against Johnson C. Smith University. In that match, the Lady Pirates shot an 805 game to take down JCSU who had a 703.
In the baker matches on Friday, Hampton went 3-1 on the day. They edged Fayetteville State (792-789), lost to the hosts (870-771), then defeated Johnson C. Smith (846-640) and Fayetteville State again (771-735).
Sunday's championship round saw Hampton storm back in the first match against Fayetteville State. After losing the first three games of the best-of-seven match, Hampton took the next four games to defeat FSU 1,087-1,045.
In the finals, Hampton took the first game against N.C. A&T 207-149 but the Aggies roared in the next four to win the tournament 4-1 (944-822).
Daysha Baskin was next in average for Hampton on the weekend with a 164.8 for the four Saturday games with a best game of 181, while
Jenai Teamer averaged 156 on Saturday with a best of 191.
Hampton will head south next weekend for the MEAC South #3 matchup in Tallahassee, Fla.
