NORFOLK, Va. – Junior
Matthew Foster-Estwick won a three-set thriller at line one singles as Hampton defeated the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion Florida A&M 4-3 on Thursday in the 2018 MEAC Tournament Quarterfinals.

The win puts Hampton (4-14) in the semifinals for the first time since 2010 when they face North Division top-seed Morgan State on Friday at noon at the Old Dominion University Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

In doubles, Hampton earned the team point winning matches at line three and one.Â
Charles Hudson and
Fernando Fernandes defeated Illya Skoromnyy and Jermaine LeGrand 6-4 for the early advantage. After dropping the number two doubles match, Foster-Estwick and
Davy Van Geerke defeated Nourelidin and Federico Nani 6-1 to give Hampton the team point.

Singles action saw Hampton take a quick 2-0 lead as van Geerke defeated Luis Barres Espinoza 6-1 6-4 at line three. FAMU won matches at six and four singles to even the dual at 2-2.

Hudson put Hampton back up 3-2 with a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 win at line five over LeGrand before the Rattlers won at line two to level the match at 3-3.

Having to move inside the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center due to darkness, Foster-Estwick scored a win over Adam in a matchup of a pair of 2018 First Team All-MEAC selections 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.
