HAMPTON, Va. -- Hampton University men's basketball assistant coach Matt Hamilton is one of 14 coaches selected to participate in the Jay Bilas Coaches Leadership Program starting Thursday through Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.
Â
The academy ran by the former Duke basketball standout and current ESPN broadcaster, will cover a variety of topics in the development of young coaches into a potential Division I Head Basketball Coach.
Â
"I am extremely thankful and blessed to be selected as part of the Jay Bilas Coaches Leadership Program," said Hamilton. "This will be a great experience to expand my coaching and leadership knowledge to continue to help Coach Joyner's program and our student-athletes to continue to excel on and off the court."
Â
Hamilton is entering his seventh season with the Hampton University men's basketball program in 2021-22, serving as an assistant coach for the last five years after holding the role of Director of Basketball Operations in 2015-16. He is primarily responsible for recruiting, player development, scouting reports, travel, and day-to-day operations within the program.
Â
The Coaches Leadership Program is held in conjunction with the Jay Bilas Skills Camp and Coaches Development Program, which has ran since 2013.  It is designed for current Division I assistant coaches who aspire to be collegiate head coaches.  The program is keyed toward the more experienced coach looking to refine their thinking and approach to coaching so they're prepared to explore, interview, and execute their first head coaching job.
