Pirate Basketball to Begin 2024-25 Season Against Mid-Atlantic Christian

HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 3, 2024) … The Hampton University men's basketball team embarks on the 2024-25 campaign on Monday, Nov. 4 inside the Convocation Center at 7:00 p.m. The Pirates begin the new season against Mid-Atlantic Christian. Five separate times Hampton has squared off against the Mustangs and won every matchup. All five meetings have been home contests for HU. 

Hampton's season opener marks Coach Ivan Thomas's first at the helm. The roster consists of two returners from last year's team with 16 additions joining the ranks. Kyrese Mullen is the Pirate's lone returning starter from the 2023-24 squad. The Norfolk, Va. native led the Coatal Athletic Association in double-doubles with 10 last season. Heading into the new season Mullen received the nod to the All-CAA Preseason First Team.

During the offseason, the Pirates added transfers Noah Farrakhan and Wayne Bristol Jr. Farrakhan comes from West Virginia where he played in 23 games for the Mountaineers last year. His best outing of the 2023-24 season came against Ohio State where he produced 19 points. The Newark, N.J. native, has also tallied over 1,000 career points at the Division I level. Bristol Jr. spent the past three seasons at Georgetown. Over the last two campaigns, he has appeared in every game for Hoyas. Bristol Jr. began his collegiate career at Howard. During his time with the Bison, he was named the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year for the 2019-20 season. 

Mid-Atlantic Christian is coached by Charles Sims who enters his third season at the helm. For eight years Sims was an assistant coach with the program. The Mustangs went 7-16 a year ago. Coach Sims's squad faced four Division I opponents during the 2023-24 season and went 0-4 against these foes. 

The Mustangs have already begun their 2024-25 campaign. Mid-Atlantic Christian opened up the season against Montreat and lost 79-70. Keith Shakes Jr. led the team in scoring with 23 points. The freshman also grabbed 11 points recording a double-double in his collegiate contest. Tyus Williams and Stewart Clough also finished the contest in double figures.
