Hampton Men's Basketball Continues Home Stint Against Apprentice School

HAMPTON, Va. (Dec. 8, 2024) … Hampton University men's basketball continues its home stint against Apprentice School. The Pirate's matchup against the Builders on Tuesday marks the second-ever meeting between the two programs in an official setting. Hampton had faced Apprentice School during the 2018-19 season in an exhibition game. Tip-off on Dec. 10 is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed on FloSports. 

ABOUT HAMPTON

In its last time out, the Pirates defeated the North Carolina A&T Aggies 82-71. For the first time since the 2019-20 season, Hampon is starting conference play 1-0. It was also the program's first win in a home conference opener in three campaigns. Once again, George Beale Jr. led the Pirates in scoring for the third time this season with 25 points. The Suffolk, Va. native, went 9-for-16 from the field while grabbing three rebounds. Tyler Rice also chipped in off the bench tying a career-high with 17 points. 

Coach Ivan Thomas's squad in his first season, continues to be one of the best offensive-rebounding teams in the country. On average, The Pirates are grabbing 14.3 offensive rebounds per game, ranking them 22nd in the nation. Kyrese Mullen has been one of the better rebounders on the offensive glass in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Norfolk, Va. native, 2.67 offensive rebounds per contest ranks fifth in the conference. Hampton throughout the 2024-25 campaign, has had one of the best bench units in the country. On average, the Pirates bench is producing 39.5 points per game, which is the eighth most at the Division I level. In the contest against North Carolina A&T Hampton's bench produced 52 points. 

ABOUT APPRENTICE SCHOOL

The Builders are coached by Michael Gainey, who is in his first season at the helm. Coach Gainey's matchup against Hampton is the program's second exhibition game of the year. To begin the 2024-25 campaign, Apprentice School faced Virginia State but fell to the Trojans 93-53. The Builders enter Tuesday night's contest with a 5-2 overall record. 

In their last time out, the Apprentice School defeated Paul D. Camp Community College 80-58 in the Great Ships Classic. The Builders finished the classic with a 2-0 record also defeating Bucks County Community College. So far this season, Adrion Wall has been the team's leading scorer. The Norfolk, Va. native, is producing 16.4 points per game.
