Box Score MACON, Ga. (Feb. 4, 2024) – The Pirates lacrosse team fell to the Mercer Bears on Sunday afternoon in Macon, Ga. The final score was 20-5.
Senior Ellison Burt-Murray led the team in goals with three. Sophomore Dillon Bethea tallied five ground balls, which was two more than any other teammate. Junior Dylan Robinson recorded a career-high with eight saves.
How It Happened
In the first period, Sebastian West passed the ball to Burt-Murray to kick off the scoring at the 13:04 mark. Hampton's lead didn't last long, as the Bears scored just a minute and a half later at 11:33. Mercer scored six straight goals before Miles Fawcett's scored off a pass from Canyon Steverson to make it 2-6. By the end of the first, The Bears led 8-2.
Hampton didn't find the net again until the 6:33 mark in the second period, when Dillon Bethea scored unassisted. Burt-Murray tallied his second goal of the day with 5:26 remaining. Hampton was only able to muster three shots on goal in the period, and all of David Sadasivam saves came in the second (three).
The third period started with the Bears in control, 13-4. Both teams made good halftime adjustments, as neither team scored until midway through the third. Burt-Murray earned his hat trick and cut the lead to eight at 5-13. Mercer extended the score to 16-5 at the end of the third. Robinson posted six saves in the period.
The Pirates were unable to find the back of the net in the fourth as the game ended 5-20.
