Pirates Getting Ready to Fight at Stony Brook

HAMPTON, Va. (Mar. 2, 2024) - The Pirates lacrosse team is heading up north for their conference opener to take on the Stony Brook Seawolves in Stony Brook, N.Y. on Saturday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m.
 
Hampton is coming off a home defeat this past Tuesday against Bellarmine University. The Pirates were led by midfielder Darius Stanley who posted his second straight hat trick of the season with three goals bringing his season total to eight. Andre Myers also put up a career-high three assists, setting a single-game high for the Pirates this season as well. Midfielder Canyon Steverson found the back of the net for the first time in his career along with goals from Xavier Salley, Mamadou Meite, and Miles Fawcett. Defenseman Dillon Bethea would continue his efforts, scooping four ground balls, along with Ethan Mitchell causing three turnovers, a career-high for him on the day.
 
So Far This Season
 
Stanley leads the Pirates with eight goals and Myers has the most assists (four). Bethea has tallied the team's highest number of caused turnovers (eight) and groundballs (18). David Sadasivam leads the CAA with 62 saves.
 
The Pirates and Seawolves have met once before last season as Stony Brook came out on top 19-3.
 
Scouting the Stony Brook Seawolves
 
Head Coach Anthony Gilardi is in his fifth season at the helm of the Seawolves. They enter the contest with a record of 1-3 and are coming off an 11-12 overtime loss to Air Force.
 
The Seawolves come into the matchup with a potent offensive attack. UMBC transfer Nick Dupuis ranks ninth in the country in points per game at 5.5 with 7 goals and 15 assists through four games. Dupuis also leads the conference in assists with 15 so far this season. Stony Brook also has three of the top ten players in the conference in goals per game at the credit of midfielder Jack Doughtery, and attackmen Dylan Pallonetti and Justin Bonacci. Face-off specialist Robbie Smith also ranks in the top ten in the conference in face-off percentage with a 43.2% win percentage.
