HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 31, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates will begin its ninth season of men's lacrosse on Saturday, February 1 when they entertain the Mercer Bears at 12 p.m. inside Armstrong Stadium.
Hampton has opened against Mercer in the last two seasons and has played three times in program history. Last season,
Ellison Burt-Murray scored the game's first goal at the 13:04 mark off an assist from Sebastien West. From there, the Bears scored the next six en route to a 20-5 victory.
ABOUT HAMPTON
The Pirates are in the fourth season under the leadership of coach
Chazz Woodson and their third season of lacrosse in the Coastal Athletic Association.
Hampton returns 24 players from last year's team including the top two scorers.
Mamadou Meite had nine goals and shared the team lead with four assists for 13 points in 2024. He had a goal against Mercer last year and had two against VMI.
Darius Stanley was the leading goal scorer last year with 10 and added two assists for 12 points. He had a season-high three goals against Queens and Bellarmine in 2024.

The Pirates have announced three captains for the 2025 season –
Jonathan Angel (#4),
Dillon Bethea (#33) and
AJ Knox (#1).
ABOUT MERCER
The Bears return three of their top five scorers from a 2024 squad that went 4-10 overall under third-year head coach Ryan Danehy.
Michael Frederick had 13 goals and shared the team lead with 10 assists for 23 points, while Dillon Bush added 16 goals and four assists for 20 points and Christian Laureano had 10 goals and four assists for 14 points. The Bears had five players tally double-digit goal totals in 2024.
