HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 10, 2025) … The Hampton University men's basketball team will start a six-game road swing on Tuesday night as they visit Virginia for a 9 p.m. tip on Tuesday night. The contest will be on ACC Network.
Following a tough 90-86 loss at Milwaukee on Nov. 3, Coach
Ivan Thomas's team routed Mid-Atlantic Christian 103-43 in the Nov. 6 home-opener. In all, 14 players saw action in the first half with 13 scoring points. Freshmen
Quintin Cooper and
Aidan Haskins each finished with 16 points. Transfers, Christan Watson and
Michael Eley each tallied 12 points.
The Pirates shot 61 percent from the field and 46.7 percent on three-pointers while the Mustangs shot 23.6 percent and 13.0 percent on treys.
Virginia has had the upper hand in the series with the Pirates. The Wahoos have won all nine contests including an 82-48 decision on Dec. 22, 2017 in the last meeting of the teams.
Hampton is 0-5 at the John Paul Jones Center. The Dec. 10, 1999 meeting was the lone game played at the Convocation Center. Virginia beat Hampton 81-45 on March 17, 2016 in the NCAA Tournament.
Virginia comes into the game with a 2-0 mark, with home wins over Rider 87-53 and North Carolina Central 81-62.
Hampton returns five players from last year's team including sophomore guard
Daniel Johnson (7.6 ppg), senior forward
Xzavier Long (6.6 ppg), redshirt sophomore guard
Etienne Strothers (4.1 ppg), sophomore forward
Eunique Rink (2.1 ppg) and redshirt freshman Hazma Assadallah (0.0 ppg). The Pirates return 25.3 percent of the team's scoring from 2024-25.

The game at Virginia is the start of a six-game road swing. The Pirates play Brown on Nov. 14 in the opening game of the Brown Bears Invitational. On Nov. 16, the Pirates play in the invitational's second game against Holy Cross. Then its on to Boston College, Norfolk State and UMES.
