HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 17, 2025) … Although the 2025-26 season is just underway, Hampton will be playing its second ACC foe when the Pirates take on Boston College.
One week ago, the young Pirates took on Virginia on the road in Charlottesville. The Pirates played on even terms in the early-going before the much-improved Cavaliers took control.
Coach
Ivan Thomas's team will face its second ACC foe when they face Boston College after splitting two games in the Brown Bears Invitational.
Hampton defeated host Brown 72-63 in the opening game in Providence before falling to Holy Cross 67-61 in the finale.
The game with Boston College is the fourth of six consecutive games on the road for the Pirates. Following the game in Massachusetts, Hampton faces longtime rival Norfolk State on Nov. 21 before a trip to Princess Anne, Md. to play Maryland-Eastern Shore on Nov. 25.
The Pirates return home on Dec. 1 to host Apprentice School.
Hampton had two players,
Xzavier Long and
Daniel Johnson, earned preseason All-Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) honors. It's hardly surprising that the pair have been Hampton's most dominant players through the season's first five games.
Long averages 12.3 points and 12.3 rebounds. The senior forward grabbed 17 rebounds in the season-opener at Milwaukee and totaled 28 rebounds in the Brown Bears Invitational with 15 versus host Brown and 13 against Holy Cross.
Johnson is scoring at an 11.4 clip with 4.8 boards. The sophomore guard also leads the team in three-pointers. He has scored double-figures three times this season with 17 against Brown.
Boston College boasts four double-figure scorers through four games. Donald Hand Jr. lead the Eagles with a 16.8 scoring norm followed by Fred Payne (11.8), Boden Kapke (10.8) and Chase Forte (10.0).
The Eagles limit opponents to .368 shooting and outrebounds its opponents by 6.0 and blocks 7.0 shots per game.
Hampton returns five players from last year's team including sophomore guard
Daniel Johnson (7.6 ppg), senior forward
Xzavier Long (6.6 ppg), redshirt sophomore guard
Etienne Strothers (4.1 ppg), sophomore forward
Eunique Rink (2.1 ppg) and redshirt freshman Hazma Assadallah (0.0 ppg). The Pirates return 25.3 percent of the team's scoring from 2024-25.
