Box Score Hampton, Va. (Nov. 6, 2025) … Hampton's Convocation Center underwent upgrades during the off-season which included refinishing the playing floor and installation of a state-of the-art scoreboard. The Pirates tested the new scoreboard by breaking the 100-point barrier as the scoreboard lit up like fourth of July fireworks.
In the end, Hampton (1-1) outscored Mid-Atlantic Christian (2-2) 103-43 to register its first victory of the season. Fans were treated to a variety of dunks and long three-pointers as the Pirates remain undefeated against the Mustangs winning all six meetings between the two teams.
Quintin Cooper and
Aidan Haskins shared game-high scoring honors with 16 points apiece. Watson and Eley each tallied 12 points. Mid-Atlantic Christian was led by Latrell Thomson who finished with 11 points.
But the defense played a key role, as well. Hampton limited Mid-Atlantic Christian to 23.6 percent shooting from the field with just three treys while outrebounding the Mustangs 57-31.
Coach
Ivan Thomas shared playing time with 14 players seeing significant action and 13 entering the scoring column. The Pirate bench scored 74 of Hampton's 103 points on the evening.
"It was a great atmosphere tonight," Thomas said. "There was a lot of energy tonight both in the stands and among our players. We scored a lot of points but I was very proud of the way we played on defense."
But the Pirates didn't start like a team that would break the century mark. Hampton missed its first four shots from the field before
Christian Watson scored the game's first points with a lay-up at 18:58. The Pirates scored the contest's first seven points before a Mid-Atlantic Christian timeout with 17:57 left. Hampton then reeled off seven more points to go ahead 14-0 on a three-pointer by
Michael Eley. The Mustangs got on the board at the 16:52 mark before the Pirates scored the next nine points to lead 23-4 midway through the first half.
The lead grew to as many as 37 in the first stanza and the teams went to the locker room at halftime with Hampton ahead 58-21. Hampton shot a torrid 62.9 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three-point range while holding the Mustangs to 28.1 percent accuracy.
Watson led the scoring parade with 12 first-half points followed by
Daniel Johnson,
Quintin Cooper and
Aidan Haskins, who tallied eight points each. The Pirate bench chipped in 27 of Hampton's 58 first half points.
Josh Ogundele and Eley each grabbed five rebounds as the Pirates owned the boards, 26-12. Mid-Atlantic Christian's Janus Sheperd led the Crusaders with five points.
After trading baskets early in the second half, the Pirates found their shooting eye and built a 70-30 advantage after Haskins hit a long trey. The Pirates then turned up the defensive heat limiting the Mustangs to 5-of-26 from the field (19.2 percent) as Hampton's lead grew to 52, 86-34, with 7:34 left.
Hampton's
Kellan Lewis hit a trey with 1:04 left to put the Pirates over the 100-point barrier to the delight of the crowd. The trey upped the Hampton lead to 101-41. The teams traded baskets in the final minute to make the final score 103-43.
The game at the Convocation Center was the lone home contest in the month of November for the Pirates. Hampton plays the next six games on the road before returning to host Apprentice School on Dec. 1.
