Women's Soccer Takes On Grambling State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff On Road Swing

HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 23, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates women's soccer team continues a three-match road swing with a pair of contests in Louisiana starting on Sunday night as they face Grambling State at 6:30 p.m. ET. On Tuesday afternoon, they'll take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff at noon ET at Grambling State.

Hampton enters the match after dropping a 4-1 decision to Howard on Sunday in the inaugural HBCU Women's Soccer Invitational at Audi Field. Nylah Jennings scored for the Pirates in the 83rd minute.

Grambling State gave up a goal in the 73rd minute on Friday afternoon as they dropped a 1-0 decision at Houston Christian. The Tigers have defeated Nicholls (3-0) and tied LSU Shreveport (1-1) in earlier games this year.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff scored once in the 17th minute and again just a minute into the second half on Friday afternoon as they defeated Lyon College 2-0. The Lady Lions opened their season with a 7-0 loss to Little Rock on August 17.

ABOUT GRAMBLING STATE
  • Olivia Kowall had an assist on the first goal and scored the second against Houston Christian to lead the Tigers in scoring with three points.
  • Alana Aiken and Liana Bryant have also scored goals for the Tigers in three matches.
  • Kaia Bace has started all three matches in goal and has a .875 save percentage with seven saves
ABOUT ARKANSAS PINE BLUFF
  • Arie Parker leads the Lady Tigers with a goal and an assist for three points.
  • Peighton Hardy has one goal, while Keissy Hopes-Lopez and Ashley McGuire have one assist apiece.
  • Makalla Riedel has started both matches in goal for UAPB and has 14 saves in two contests with a .667 save percentage.
HAMPTON VS. SWAC
This trip will mark the second and third ever opponents for Hampton from the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Last season, Hampton fell to Mississippi Valley State 3-2 in Ita Bena, Mississippi in the first-ever meeting against a SWAC school.
