Women's Basketball Visits Drexel and Hofstra For Weekend Swing

HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 4, 2026) … The Hampton University women's basketball team heads north this weekend to take on the Drexel Dragons on Friday night in Philadelphia and head to Hempstead, N.Y. to face the Hofstra Pride for a Super Bowl Sunday afternoon encounter.

ABOUT HAMPTON (9-12/3-6)
The Pirates begin a road weekend with a visit to Drexel before heading to Hofstra for a Super Bowl Sunday afternoon tilt. Hampton split action last weekend defeating UNCW 60-48 and dropping a 62-57 contest to N.C. A&T on Sunday evening.

This will be the first of two meetings with the Dragons in two weeks as Drexel comes to the Convocation Center for the rematch on February 20.

Kayla Lezama leads the team in scoring averaging 14.4 points per game, while in the CAA she is third at 18.3 points per game. She also leads the CAA in league play for 3-point percentage (.488) and is second in free throw percentage (.955). Kiki McElrath is next averaging 13.1 points per game overall and is ninth in the CAA averaging 14.2 per league game. Aaryn Battle rounds out the double figure scorers averaging 10.2 points per game.

On the boards, Le'Asia Foreman leads the Pirates and fifth in the league in rebounding at 7.2 caroms per contest. Olivia Smith leads the team in assists (64) with Battle coming in with 55 helpers. Foreman leads in steals (35) followed by McElrath (31) and the duo of Battle and Lezama with 27 each.

As a team, the Pirates are averaging 62.3 points per game and allowing 62.0. On the boards, they trail 39.9-to-34.6 per game. From the field they are hitting 38.0 percent (487-1280) and allowing opponents to hit 40.1 percent (496-1236). From 3-point range, Hampton is 124-of-449 for 27.6 percent while the opposition is105-of-373 for 28.2 percent. Hampton has averaged 14.9 turnovers per game and force 18.3 per contest.
 
ABOUT DREXEL (13-7/6-3)
The Dragons are on a five-game winning streak after winning at Monmouth (56-53) and Northeastern (65-56) last weekend.

Amaris Baker leads Drexel in scoring averaging 19.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Laine McGuirk 11.8 points per game and is second in assists (47), while Deja Evans adds 10.1 points and a team best 27 blocked shots.

As a team, the Dragons are averaging 63.6 points per game and allowing 57.0. On the boards, they are outrebounding opponents 36.4-to-33.2 per game. From the floor they are hitting .417 (484-1161) and allowing their opponents to hit at a .388 clip (433-1117). From 3-point land, Drexel is 97-of-312 (.311) and their opponents are hitting at a .270 mark (107-396). The Dragons average 12.5 turnovers per game and force 14.2.

ABOUT HOFSTRA (3-17/1-8)
The Pride hosts Monmouth on Friday night before entertaining the Pirates on Sunday. Hofstra enters the weekend having lost its last seven games including a 52-49 loss to Stony Brook in their last contest.

Hofstra is paced by Sandra Magolico who averages a team-high 9.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game to go with a team-leading 13 blocked shots. Chloe Sterling (8.8 ppg and 28 assists) and Alarice Gooden (8.4 ppg, 28 assists) are just behind Magolico.

As a team, the Pride is averaging 51.6 points per game and allowing 63.6. They're hitting .356 from the field (394-1107) and their opponents are hitting .422 (462-1095). From 3-point range they are hitting .253 (86-340) and allowing their opponents to hit at a .311 clip (123-395). On the boards, they are being outrebounded by their opponents 36.7-to-34.5 per game. Hofstra is forcing 15.1 turnovers per game and turning the ball over 17.0 times per contest.

BREAKING MARKS - DEFENSE
The 48 points allowed to UNCW on January 30 is the lowest against a NCAA Division I opponent this season. William & Mary scored 49 against the Pirates on January 16 and Stony Brook scored 54 points in the CAA opener.

Those 48 points are also the second lowest allowed in a CAA contest since Hampton joined the league. Hofstra scored 42 points in falling 49-42 to Hampton on March 1, 2024.

APPROACHING SINGLE SEASON TEAM TOP 10'S
Heading into the final month of the regular season, the Pirates are approaching a couple of team all-time top 10 categories.

They have hit 124 three-pointers which is 11 away from cracking the all-time top 10. Last season Hampton hit 135 triples to slide into the top 10 in tenth.

They have blocked 81 shots as a team and are within sight of tenth place on the all-time single season list at 97 held by the 2010-11 and 2017-18 seasons.

FRESHMAN BLOCK PARTY
Freshman Akilah Shelton made her presence known in the HBCU Hoops Invitational in Orlando as she swatted a season-high five shots in each of the two Hampton wins. She had three at Eastern Kentucky and in the CAA opening win over Stony Brook. The Georgia native and has had at least two swats in 10 of her 18 games played. Shelton needs three blocks to join the Single Season Top 10 all-time as she sits at 34 swats.

The Pirates are home for a Friday, February 13 encounter with Towson at 7 p.m. to start a three-game homestand.
