HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 6, 2026) … The Hampton University men's basketball team will participate in the Chris Paul HBCU Classic for the second consecutive season as announced Thursday. 

The-two day event will take place on Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5 inside of CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C. Hampton will take on FAMU in the first game, followed by a matchup in a "Battle of the real HU" on day two. 

"We're excited to participate in the CP3 Classic once again. We had a tremendous experience in Atlanta last year, and we're grateful for the opportunity to return for another first-class event. Our team is looking forward to competing this year in our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. The CP3 Classic consistently brings together outstanding programs and provides a great atmosphere for college basketball. We're excited to be a part of it," said Hampton University head coach Ivan Thomas. 

This marks the fourth time that Hampton has participated in the classic, having played in the inaugural event during the 2021-22 season in Phoenix, Ariz., followed by Las Vegas in 2022-23 and Atlanta Ga. in 2025-26.
