2007 JUNIOR SEASON
Played in all 11 of the Pirates’ games… recorded 18 tackles, 10 of which were solo efforts… had 1.5 tackles for losses, totaling six yards… intercepted two passes and broke up another four… returned an interception 23 yards in a win at Princeton.
2006 SOPHOMORE SEASON
Appeared in all 12 games as a reserve cornerback and on special teams… had a career-best three tackles (two solo) at South Carolina State… added a solo tackle against Norfolk State and an assist against Central State… finished the year with five total tackles, including three unassisted.
2005 FRESHMAN SEASON
Saw action in 11 of the 12 games as a redshirt freshman, playing primarily on special teams… made his collegiate debut against Howard… recorded nine tackles on the season, five coming by way of solo stops… posted two tackles at Norfolk State and against Richmond in the first round of the playoffs… had his only pass breakup in a win over Savannah State.
INDEPENCDENCE HIGH SCHOOL
A two-year starter for head coach Tom Knotts… helped guide the Patriots to a perfect 32-0 mark with back-to-back Regional and State 4-A (AAAA) championships in 2002 & 2003… Independence ranked third and fourth respectively in both the 2002 and ’03 final national poll released by USA Today … earned all-conference and All-Mecklenburg County honors … selected to play in the annual North Carolina vs. South Carolina Shrine Bowl… Continental Tire Blue Cross/Blue Shield Blue Points Award Winner… named as the Defensive Player of the Game in the state championship game… tied school record for three interceptions returned for a touchdown in a season… closed out his senior campaign with 64 tackles, 10 interceptions (second in state), one forced fumble and three blocked field goals… also lettered in basketball.
PERSONAL
Born on Aug. 6, 1986… the son of Tobin and Belinda Lyons… plans to major in Finance at Hampton University… assistant coach with the Charlotte Monarchs’ 13-and-under AAU boys basketball team.
