2006 • JUNIOR SEASON
Played in all 12 games on the year, seeing time at fullback and on special teams… did not carry the ball but caught four passes out of the backfield for 44 yards, with a season-long reception of 16 yards against Norfolk State… averaged 11 yards per catch… key lead blocker for HU running backs Alonzo Coleman and Kevin Beverly who combined for nearly 1,900 yards and 24 touchdowns… returned three kickoffs for a total of 27 yards.

2005 • SOPHOMORE SEASON
Appeared in all 12 games for the Pirates… finished the season with nine rush attempts for 61 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry… also caught three passes for 22 yards and a score… scored his first career touchdown on an 8-yard catch in the victory over Delaware State… had his longest carry of the season with a 19-yard gain against Morgan State in the New York Urban League Classic.

2004 • FRESHMAN SEASON
Saw action in seven games as a reserve fullback… carried the ball 21 times for a total of 85 yards, averaging 4.0 yards per carry… gained a season-high 36 yards on nine attempts at Savannah State… had his longest run of the season on a 16-yard carry against William & Mary in the opening round of the Division I-AA playoffs.

NORVIEW HIGH SCHOOL
Lettered all four years in football, basketball and track & field… All-District as a running back and linebacker… helped guide the Pilots to a district championship during his sophomore season… Virginia Preps Top 100… in 2003 Payton rushed 81 times for 518 yards and had 29 catches for 494 yards from his fullback position.
