2006  · JUNIOR SEASON

Started all 12 games at nose tackle for the Pirates… accounted for 24 tackles on the season, including nine solo stops… 4.5 of his tackles came behind the line scrimmage, 3.5 of which were courtesy of quarterback sacks… had a career-high two sacks versus Morgan State in the New York Urban League Classic… equaled his career-best with four stops (1 solo, 3 assists) in road contests at Delaware State and South Carolina State… had a critical fourth quarter fumble recovery in the season opener against Grambling State that allowed the Pirates to tie the game with just over a minute to play, and eventually win it in overtime… also added a fumble recovery against Central State in the Circle City Classic… registered a sack in victories over Delaware State and Winston-Salem State.

2005  · SOPHOMORE SEASON

Played in all 12 games and started three after moving into the rotation along the defensive line… made his first career start on Oct. 15 at Norfolk State, finishing the day with two tackles and half a sack… totaled 24 tackles on the year… had seven solo tackles and 24 assists… recorded four tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble… had a career-high four tackles on four occasions, including in the I-AA playoff game against Richmond when he also recorded 1.5 sacks for a loss of 16 yards… three of his four tackles against Morgan State were solo efforts, including a sack for a loss of 17 yards…

2004  · FRESHMAN SEASON

Played in three games on the year after receiving a medical redshirt in 2003… registered five tackles on the season … collected all three of his solo tackles on the year against William & Mary, including one behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of one yard … picked up assisted tackles against Jackson State and Howard … had one quarterback sack at home against Howard.

SOUTHAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL

Playing his high school football at Southampton High School, Vernon was named as a First Team All-District and All-Region member … also tabbed as a First Team Daily Press All-Star.
