DOVER, Del. – The Hampton University women's basketball team lost its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener Friday night, as host Delaware State took a
3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 21-25 25-20) win.
The Lady Hornets had 43 kills in 100 chances as a team, recording a hitting percentage of .200. They had 14 kills in 24 attacks in the first set, recording a .333 hitting percentage, before following that up in the second set with a .316 hitting percentage (nine kills, three errors, 19 attacks).
Delaware State hit .241 in the fourth set, recording 11 kills and four errors in 29 attacks.
Mianna Armstrong (Lomond, Alberta) led the Lady Pirates (5-13, 0-1 MEAC) with 13 kills in 33 attacks, while
Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) added eight.
Brittany Wynne (Sacramento, Calif.) had seven kills, while
Ornela Cadavid (Cali, Colombia) had six kills in 11 attacks with just one error for a team-best .455 hitting percentage.
Mariah Baylor (Minneapolis, Minn.) led Hampton with two service aces.
Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) had 34 of the team's 38 assists, while
Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) led the defense with 12 digs. Armstrong added seven digs on defense to her offensive output.
Cassandra Joyner led the Lady Hornets with 10 kills, and Sarah Wheatcroft added nine. Erica Tajchman had four service aces.
