MEAC PLAY CONTINUES FOR LADY PIRATES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. –
The Hampton University volleyball team will continue Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this weekend, traveling to Maryland-Eastern Shore for a Friday evening match before returning to Holland Hall on Sunday to take on Howard.

The Lady Pirates (6-13, 1-1 MEAC) are tied for third in the MEAC Northern Division with Delaware State, while Maryland-Eastern Shore and Howard are tied for the division lead at 2-0 in conference play. The Lady Hawks are 13-6 overall, while Howard, which boasts MEAC Player of the Week Gazelle d'Artois, is 6-18 overall.

Hampton will face UMES on Friday at 6 p.m., while Sunday's match against Howard will start at 3 p.m.

The Lady Pirates opened MEAC play last Friday, falling 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20) to Delaware State, before bouncing back on Sunday with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19) win over Coppin State for their first MEAC win of the season. Mianna Armstrong (Lomond, Alberta) combined for 27 kills in those two matches, leading Hampton's offensive attack, while Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) led the defense with a combined 33 digs.

Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) leads the Lady Pirates with 157 kills, an average of 2.34 per set, while Brittany Wynne (Sacramento, Calif.) leads the team with an average of 2.48 kills per set. Lina Cordoba (Bogota , Columbia), with 89 kills and 35 errors in 212 attacks, leads the Lady Pirates with a .255 hitting percentage.

Wynne also leads the team with 21 service aces on the season, while Harrison and Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) each have 19. The team sits third in the MEAC in service aces, averaging 1.87 on the season.

Elkayam sits fifth in the MEAC in assists, averaging 7.64 per set and recording 466 total on the season. Suput's 249 digs, an average of 3.66 per set, leads the team and ranks her third in the conference. As a team, the Lady Pirates are second in the MEAC in opponents' hitting percentage, only allowing teams to hit .180.
