BUSY WEEK OF HOOPS FOR HAMPTON UNIVERSITY

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's and women's basketball teams will have a busy week, as the Pirates and Lady Pirates take to the road for games before Thanksgiving and tournaments after the holiday.

The Lady Pirates (2-0) will be in Richmond on Tuesday to take on the Spiders at the Robins Center at 4 p.m., looking for their third straight win following Sunday's 66-52 defeat of UNC-Wilmington. Richmond is 2-1 on the season after falling 67-52 to Drexel on Friday. Before that, the Spiders beat Western Carolina and George Mason. Richmond's first four games of the season are at home, while Tuesday's game will be Hampton's first road trip of the season.

Hampton leads the all-time series against the Spiders 10-4, having won four of the last five matchups. The two teams last met on Nov. 11, 2005, when the Lady Pirates fell 77-47 at the Robins Center. The series started Feb. 8, 1979, when Hampton came away with a 64-48 win; the Lady Pirates would win the first three games in the series. Richmond has never won more than two consecutive games in the series; after beating Hampton 82-72 on Feb. 8, 1983, the Spiders took a 72-70 win on Nov. 25, 1983. The Lady Pirates are 3-3 all-time against Richmond at the Robins Center.

On Wednesday, the Pirates (0-3) will head up Interstate 64 to Williamsburg, where they will face the Tribe of William & Mary at Kaplan Arena at 7 p.m., looking for their first win of the season after losing their third straight, 63-52 Monday night against Virginia Commonwealth. William & Mary is 2-2 on the season, having won back-to-back games against Richmond and Manhattan after falling to No. 12 Connecticut and Harvard to open the season.

William & Mary leads the all-time series 8-5 since 1995, having won four of the last six games between the two teams. The teams last met on Dec. 29, 2007, when the Pirates came away with a 70-63 home win. Before that, the Tribe had won three straight games in the series. Hampton won the first meeting between the two teams 84-76 on Dec. 20, 1995, but the Tribe responded by winning four straight against the Pirates. The Pirates have never won more than two straight games in the series (2000-01 and 2001-02), and Hampton is 3-4 all-time on the road against the Tribe.

After playing Richmond, the Lady Pirates will head to Dallas, Texas for the Southern Methodist Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Moody Coliseum. Hampton will join the host Mustangs (4-0), along with Boston College (0-3) and Fresno State (3-2) in that tournament.

The Lady Pirates have never faced SMU, Boston College or Fresno State.

The Pirates will head to Laramie, Wyo. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the World Vision Basketball Challenge. On top of playing the host Cowboys of the University of Wyoming, Hampton will also take on Monmouth (1-2) and Pepperdine (2-2). The Pirates will face Pepperdine on Friday at 6:30 p.m. EST, before facing Wyoming on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. EST and Monmouth on Sunday at 2 p.m. EST.

The Pirates have never faced Wyoming (3-1) or Pepperdine, but are 0-2 all-time against Monmouth. The Hawks won the first meeting between the two teams on Nov. 24, 2003, beating Hampton 64-52, before taking a 71-49 win on March 14, 2006 in the opening round game in the NCAA Tournament.
