LADY PIRATES TO VISIT NORFOLK STATE

NORFOLK, Va. –
The Hampton University volleyball team, fresh off its win of the Tiny L. Laster Jr. Memorial Tri-Match, will cross the James River for its first road match of the season, Wednesday evening at Norfolk State. The match will start at 6 p.m.

Hampton (2-0) lost both meetings to Norfolk State last year. The Lady Spartans are 1-2 on the season after competing in the UTEP Sun Bowl Invitational over the weekend.

Junior Brittany Wynne (Sacramento, Calif.) leads the Lady Pirates with 20 kills so far this season, an average of 3.33 a set. Her .545 hitting percentage is second on the team among players with at least 15 total attacks and the best in the MEAC; Lina Cordoba (Bogota , Colombia) has an .833 hitting percentage thanks to her 15 kills in 18 attacks and six service aces so far this season. Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) has 19 kills and five service aces.

Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) leads Hampton and the MEAC with 64 assists – 10.67 a set – and seven service aces, while Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) leads the team and the conference with 38 digs on defense.

The Lady Pirates are the only team in the MEAC who have yet to lose a match.

After Wednesday's match at Norfolk State, the Lady Pirates will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. for the James Madison Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Hampton will open the tournament on Friday with a 5 p.m. match against St. Francis (Pa.), before taking on tournament host James Madison at noon on Saturday and Duquesne at 5 p.m.
