Box Scores: Morgan State | Delaware State
DOVER, Del. – The Hampton University volleyball team lost both of its matches over the weekend, falling in straight sets to Morgan State in Holland Hall on Friday before losing to Delaware State on the road on Sunday.
Morgan State beat the Lady Pirates
3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 28-26) in a hard-fought match on Friday, even though Hampton hit .143 as a team with 41 kills and just 22 errors in 133 total attacks. The Lady Pirates fell behind 9-3 in the first set, but rallied to take a 20-19 lead before the Lady Bears scored six of the last eight points to take the set.
The third set saw 10 tie scores as Hampton and Morgan State battled down to the wire. The Lady Pirates (6-20, 2-4 MEAC) held a 23-21 lead after a kill from freshman
Sheileen Pagan (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico), but Morgan State rallied to tie the set at 24-24.
A kill by Jourdan Lemons gave the Lady Bears the win.
Hampton, playing without sophomore
Ornela Cadavid (Cali, Colombia) because of a season-ending knee injury, hit a team-best .152 in the second set, thanks to 14 kills and just seven errors in 46 attacks. Morgan State hit .151 for the match, with 39 kills and 21 errors in 119 attacks. Both teams finished the night with three service aces.
Senior
Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) led the Lady Pirates with 11 kills, while freshman
Petra Parros (Bloomfield, New Jersey) added nine, while also hitting a team-best .368 thanks to just two errors in 19 attacks. Freshman
Ioana Kalfinova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and junior
Lina Cordoba (Bogota, Colombia) each added six kills.
Pagan, Cordoba and senior
Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) each had a service ace.
Junior
Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) had 26 of Hampton's 37 assists, with junior
Juliana Chavez (Bogota, Colombia) adding 10. Suput had a team-high 15 digs on defense, while Pagan added eight and Elkayam and Harrison each had seven.
Erin Cox led Morgan State with 12 kills, while Ngebui Chafeh added 10.
Delaware State defeated Hampton
3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-14) on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a team hitting percentage of .326 (42 kills, 12 errors in 92 attacks). The Lady Hornets also had 13 service aces to Hampton's three.
The Lady Pirates hit .148 as a team, with 25 kills and just 13 errors in 81 total attacks. Hampton's best set came in the second, when the team hit .263 (13 kills, three errors in 38 attacks).
Harrison led Hampton with nine kills, while also hitting a team-best .533 thanks to just one error in 15 attacks. Cordoba added six kills, while Pagan recorded five. Chavez had two of Hampton's three service aces, while sophomore
Virginia Chell (Emerald Park, Saskatchewan) recorded the other.
Chavez also had 17 of Hampton's 23 assists.
Junior
Mianna Armstrong (Lomond, Alberta) recorded a team-high 13 digs on defense against Delaware State to cover for Suput, who missed the match with a concussion, while Kalfinova added seven and Pagan had six.
Sarah Wheatcroft led the Lady Hornets with 10 kills.
