BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hampton University volleyball team closed out Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play on Sunday, falling in straight sets to Morgan State, as the Lady Bears won
3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-18) at Hill Field House.
The loss puts the Lady Pirates (7-23, 3-7 MEAC) in fifth place in the MEAC Northern Division standings, while Morgan State (6-19, 4-6 MEAC) sits in fourth place.
Morgan State hit .263 as a team on Sunday, recording 45 team kills and just 15 errors in 114 total attacks. The lady Bears also held a 3-1 advantage in service aces. Morgan State hit a team-best .317 in the second set, with 15 kills and just two errors in 41 attacks, while also hitting .297 (17 kills, six errors in 37 attacks) in the third set.
Hampton hit .157 as a team, with 31 kills and 15 errors in 102 attacks. The Lady Pirates hit a team-best .267 in the third set, thanks to 12 kills and four errors in 30 attacks.
Freshman
Ioana Kalfinova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led the Lady Pirates with eight kills, matching a career high set Sept. 11 against Binghamton, committing just two errors to hit .286 for the match. Freshman
Petra Parros (Bloomfield, N.J.) added six kills, while senior
Lina Cordoba (Bogota, Colombia) had five kills and just one error in 10 attacks for a team-best hitting percentage of .400.
Cordoba also had Hampton's lone service ace.
Junior
Juliana Chavez (Bogota, Colombia) had 19 of Hampton's 27 assists, while senior
Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) added a team-high 13 digs on defense. Senior
Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) added eight digs, while junior
Mianna Armstrong (Lomond, Alberta) recorded six.
Erin Cox led Morgan State with 12 kills, while Ngebui Chafeh added 11, hitting .526.
