LADY PIRATES LOSE THREE IN BUFFALO TOURNEY

The Hampton University volleyball team lost all three of its matches in the University of Buffalo Blue and White Classic on Friday and Saturday at Alumni Arena.

Senior Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Pirates lost their first match on Friday, as St. John's came away with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-17) victory. The Red Storm hit .263 as a team, with 39 kills and 14 errors in 95 total attacks. St. John's hit a team-best .379 in the second set, thanks to 15 kills and just four errors in 29 total attacks.

Hampton (0-11) hit -.010 as a team, recording 19 kills and 20 errors in 96 total attacks. The Lady Pirates hit a team-best .118 in the second set, with seven kills and three errors in 34 attacks.

St. John's held an 8-2 advantage in service aces.

Harrison led the way with 10 kills for the Lady Pirates, while only committing three errors for a team-best .259 hitting percentage. She also had one of Hampton's two service aces. Freshman Sheileen Pagan (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) had five kills for the Lady Pirates.

Junior Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) had a team-high nine assists for the Lady Pirates, while junior Juliana Chavez (Bogota, Colombia) had eight. Senior Ivana Suput, making her first appearance since the Tiny L. Laster Memorial Tournament, led the way with nine digs on defense.

Anzelika Lukjanska led St. John's with 11 kills and 16 digs. Korina Yee had a team-high four service aces.

Tournament host Buffalo beat the Lady Pirates 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-12) on Saturday, thanks to a team hitting percentage of .442 (42 kills, eight errors, 77 total attacks). The Bulls hit .455 in the second set with 17 kills and two errors, to go along with a .450 hitting percentage (11 kills, two errors, 20 attacks) in the third set.

The Lady Pirates hit -0.14 as a team, with 15 kills and 16 errors in 73 total attacks. Hampton hit a team-best .138 (seven kills, three errors, 29 total attacks) in the second set.

Buffalo held a 10-2 advantage in service aces.

Harrison led the Lady Pirates with six kills, while also recording just two errors in 21 total attacks for a team-best .190 hitting percentage. She also had both of Hampton's service aces.

Pagan and sophomore Ornela Cadavid (Cali, Colombia) each had three kills.

Chavez had a team-high 10 assists, while Suput added a team-high six digs on defense. Sophomore Brittany Hill (Sacramento, Calif.) added five digs for the Lady Pirates.

Marisa Hornbaker led Buffalo with 10 kills, while Dana Musil added nine and Abby Niekamp added eight. Four Bulls each had two service aces.

Binghamton defeated Hampton in the Lady Pirates' last match of the tournament 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-10), thanks to a team hitting percentage of .340 – 46 kills and just 12 errors in 100 total attacks. The Bearcats hit .300 or better in all three sets, including a team-best .400 (11 kills, one error, 25 attacks) in the third set.

Hampton hit .152 as a team, with 34 kills and 19 errors in 99 attacks. The Lady Pirates hit a team-best .281 (13 kills, four errors, 32 total attacks) in the second set.

Binghamton held a 9-5 edge in service aces.

Harrison led Hampton with nine kills, while Cadavid – with five kills and one error in 10 total attacks – led the Lady Pirates with a .400 hitting percentage. Freshman Ioana Kalfinova (Sofia, Bulgaria) had eight kills, while Pagan had seven kills to go along with a team-high two service aces.

Elkayam had 30 of Hampton's 33 assists, while Suput recorded a team-high 15 digs on defense.

Michelle McDonough led Binghamton with 21 kills, while Anna Lejina added 12.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday and Saturday, when they travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to compete in the South Carolina State SpikeFest.
